Relaxing Pottery in the Park: Ocarinas and Kurinuki

Relaxing Pottery in the Park: Ocarinas and Kurinuki

Sunday 04 February
Ala Moana Blvd. - 10am - 3 Hours
Honolulu Art Group
Hello everyone! In this session of Pottery in the Park, we will cover two techniques: making ocarinas (ceramic flutes) and kurinuki (carved cups)

Kurinuki is a Japanese technique that dates back to medieval times when it was used to make objects for tea ceremonies. During the Edo Period, from 1600, it was extended into the production of everyday objects.

Ocarinas date back 12,000 years and were originally founded in Chinese and Mesoamerican cultures. They were popularly used for song and dance.

Come by and learn how to make your own ocarina, (or dog whistle) as well as your own Japanese kurinuki cup.

This workshop will begin with a guided meditation, allowing us to leave our worries to the side and take time for ourselves to sink into art-making.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and is facilitated by an experienced working potter.

Please note: firing is not included in the session cost, so finished pieces will not be waterproof or food-safe.
